Synopsis:

Alienation, isolation, and the accumulation of a horrific childhood bring a small-town cop progressively lower as he struggles to make contact with his abusive, alcoholic father (James Coburn), his well-intentioned girlfriend (Sissy Spacek), and his unsympathetic brother (Willem Dafoe).  Relentless, powerfully acted film.
