Synopsis: What odds would you give a junkie (Sinatra) just out of jail and out of a treatment program, who goes back to the very environment that landed him in jail, and to a blaming wife who’s wheelchair-bound because of Sinatra’s heroin-impaired driving? The film’s sometimes melodramatic handling of a now more familiar drug story wasn’t quite so new when the movie was released, and the subject matter qualified as daring back then. The “Golden Arm” refers to Sinatra’s illegal card-dealing ability, which he resorts to for quick cash.
