Synopsis: Take your pick, one of these versions will do the trick. Experienced but declining actor helps young performer to success. Marries her, becomes alcoholic, then self-destructs and is mourned by bereft surviving widow. The original was based on the 31 year life of silent film actor Wallace Reid, who died in 1923 of a morphine overdose. The couples played chronologically by: Janet Gaynor and Fredric March; Judy Garland and James Mason; Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
