The Sober Cafe
Vegetarian
     Cheeze Sa
uce

A vegan cheeze sauce to pour over steamed vegetables, straight from Alceon's recipe file.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3/4 cup plain flavor rice or soy milk
  • 1/3 cup nutritional yeast*
  • 2 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 Tablespoon whole wheat or white flour
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • l/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • few shakes of white or black pepper

Combine dry ingredients with 1/2 cup of the water in a saucepan, then add the remaining water and rice or soy milk. Stir constantly over a low heat until mixture comes to a slow boil and thickens.

This sauce is good on steamed vegetables such as asparagus, broccoli or Brussels sprouts and also makes a great cheeze sauce for baked potatoes or used as a spread on a veggie sandwich.
