Documenting LifeRing's NonProfit Status Why might I need to document LifeRing's nonprofit status?
Some meeting space providers, such as churches, hospitals and treatment facilities, have rules that allow them to rent meeting rooms only to nonprofit groups. Others will offer lower rates to nonprofits.
To quality as a "nonprofit," a group needs to be chartered as a charitable corporation and needs to apply for and obtain IRS tax-exempt status. LifeRing Inc. has both of these.
Some meeting space providers will take your word for it that you are a chartered member group of a qualified nonprofit. Others will want documentation.
How can I document LifeRing's nonprofit status?
Proving that you are entitled to the benefits of nonprofit status usually requires one or both of the following:
The corporate charter. Click here to download a PDF file copy of the official LifeRing Inc. corporate charter issued by the State of California. Print it out.
The IRS determination letter. Click here to download a PDF file copy of the IRS letter and renewal letter that establish LifeRing as a public-benefit corporation qualified to receive tax-exempt charitable contributions under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Act. Print them out.
It may also be helpful if you can show the provider your LifeRing meeting charter. If you run into an unusually resistant space provider, or have any other problems, email service@lifering.org to obtain a personal letter to the provider from a LifeRing corporate officer.
