DESTINY?

By Glo M. for a friend in relapse

"Was it this dark before
here in the pit?
no light anywhere
that I can see
not much air either
never mind, it's where I belong.
That other place
the one with sunshine
and fresh air
well, that's for others
who deserve it
not for such as me."

So says the voice of relapse
so roars the addiction
victorious again
giddy with success
happy to drag another good one
back into the pit

I have a few words for you,
you miserable sonofabitch,
listen up, and listen good.
Not this time.
Not this one.
You will NOT win.

Because he's seen the sunlight
he's smelled the fresh air
he's walked without
the irons around his ankles
he's felt heart freedom now
and he will NOT submit.

And there's this:
he's not alone
there is a cavalry here
who all have seen your hateful face
who know who you are
how you love
to cut one out of the crowd
to run to death

Not this time!
you are BUSTED
so slink back to your
stinking cave
and stay there
till you ROT!

Do you see, my friend
the shadows of all these hands
reaching down there
reaching for you
wanting to help you
pull yourself up
and out of the dark?

The sun is still shining
It did not go out.
