EGO-TRIP

In all the days and years gone by,
In all the times and places
We ask the questions how and why,
Looking for clues in human faces.

We search our world both far and near,
We look to prophets, seers and sages.
We battle anger, apathy and fear
And understanding comes in stages.

It's in letting go and setting free,
We gain and keep the most.
It's in the giving of self - of me -
We garner the regard of the host.

So looking through life's roiling mist
And times' falling grains of sand,
We learn joy can't come in a hardened fist,
But in a warm and caring open hand.
