Rainy Spring Day

The cherry trees burst out in pink glory
Envious winter, in its last gasp, sends gales of rain
To beat the new petals to the ground
Laughing, the trees draw more sap from the deluge
and the downed petals mirror the radiance of the fresh-blooming crown
Soon the sky will be blue and the air warm and sweet
