TIME IS DOING ME - A Song
By Bill Somers 8/5/2000
I got time on my hands,
I got time on my mind.
The way the maddening hours pass
Is of a whole nother kind. They say that I am doing time,
They say I can't be free
And as I watch the minutes pass
I know that time is doing me.The noise of my existence,
Echoes through my head.
I can't string thoughts together
And my heart it feels like lead. The thunder from the radio,
Rattles off the walls
And a pod of bright red anger
Suffuses down the halls.I used to know what justice was
But now I can't be sure.
One thing I've learned for certain
Is to stifle and endure.I've gotten so I like to talk,
To me, myself and I,
About that future time when doors
Will open and I will fly.Unlike some unlucky ones,
I do have folks who care,
Who write and lift my spirits
And let me know they're there. When I find I've done my time
And time is done with me,
I promise I will not forget,
The folks who can't be free. They must learn that hope exists,
That someone somewhere cares.
That there is value in them
And someone works and dares. In the meantime let me bide
And keep my head on tight.
Let me hold on for the ride
So all can turn out right.
