  Special: Pre-Congress Workshop
Solution Focused Interviewing
Featuring Dr. Ronald E. Warner, Ed.D., C.Psych.,  CSFT
University of Toronto

A two-day strength-based skill development workshop.

Solution-Focused Interviewing (SFI), adapted from the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model, is a set of interpersonal helping skills and strategies that engages clients in discovering how their strengths and resources can be marshalled to find solutions to their psychosocial difficulties.  SFI training addresses solutions rather than problems by emphasizing client strengths, competencies, and possibilities rather than weaknesses, deficits, and limitations.

The core of the solution-focused approach engages the client by asking one or more of the five “solution-talk” questions. These helpful questions and related strategies are client centred and strength based, and represent a paradigm shift from the dominant expert oriented, and deficit based problem solving model.
