William L. White, author
of Slaying the
Dragon and
Toward a New
Recovery Movement among other works.
William L. White is a Senior
Research Consultant at Chestnut Health Systems / Lighthouse
Institute and Past-Chair of the Board of Recovery Communities
United. He has worked with recovery advocacy groups across the
country and has written extensively about recovery advocacy.
Bill has a Master’s degree in Addiction Studies and 35 years
of experience in the addictions field. He has authored or
co-authored more than 140 articles and monographs, and eight
books. His book, Slaying the Dragon - The History of Addiction
Treatment and Recovery in America, received the McGovern
Family Foundation Award for the best book on addiction
recovery. Bill was featured in the Bill Moyers’ PBS special
“Close To Home: Addiction in America” and Showtime’s
documentary “Smoking, Drinking and Drugging in the 20th
Century.” Bill also received the 2003 National Association of
Addiction Treatment Provider’s Michael Q. Ford Journalism
Award.
